Welcome to Summer!

Now that Memorial Day is just a memory, summer-like weather is now here. Mother Nature reminded us of this recently with the somewhat unusual early June 4-day heat wave that occurred June 7th – 10th. Even though the edge has come off the heat and humidity, it is still a good idea to take the usual warm weather precautions even if it doesn’t feel particularly hot. This applies especially to the sun which is at its strongest now through mid-July. If sunshine is not filtered by many clouds, UV Indices will easily reach a 10 (out of 12). Under “partly sunny skies” the UV Index will generally fall into the 7-9 range, which is classified as “High” to “Very High”. When the UV Index is greater than 9, it takes less than 15 minutes for sunburn to occur! While many backyard activities will cause sun burn as well, remember that while on the course, you are more susceptible to sunburn. This is because fairways and greens tend to be open spaces with little available shade.

Additionally, be sure to stay properly hydrated, it takes a few hours to complete a round. Combine that relatively long length of time with the fluids lost from physical exertion on the course, and that could spell some dehydration or dizziness on the back 9. Taking these precautions will help ensure an enjoyable full round!

Featured Golf Tip of the Month:

Extra Clubs?

A great way to increase your options out on the course is to consider using your putter off the green in a few select instances, mainly in lieu of a wedge. If you are on firm ground and the grass is short, consider a long put. Just make sure to hit the ball solidly. Over a longer distance and on a slower surface, errors in your shot will be magnified.
